Bangalore Police .. Banning Live Shows and Dance Floors

The Bangalore Police from January 1 2008 has banned all Live Band shows and dance floors in all clubs and pubs over the city. Presumably to better the detoriating law and order situation in the so called Silicon City of the country.

This kind of draconian measure is the first of its kind in the country. And highly surprising as Bangalore has always been categorized as a happening and laid back city. When quizzed about this move top police honchos have said that live music and dance floors induce drunk and reckless behaviour and create law and order problems.. Well what can I say to this kind of logic except that its one of the most obtuse and stupid ones ever devised by our lawful protectors.

All this coming from a police force which has been unable to apprehend the IISC shooter who shot dead a professor inside the IISC campus in 2005, couldn't solve the bomb plantings in Majestic bus stand, the rape and murder of an HP employee in 2005, the scores of daily murders and robberies happening all around the city. But this move is supposed to be a panacea to all these woes.. So the people of Bangalore lets rejoice...at the far sightedness of our near sighted police.

First it was the closing of all eateries and business establishments at 11:30 in a city which works 24/7. So many people have been inconvenienced due to this especially people in IT companies as work stretches late most of the time. It seems that the Bangalore Police is getting inspiration for these kind of ideas from the ousted Taliban of Afghanistan. A recent case being harassment of a couple holding hands by a police SI. That day may no be far off when a law requiring all females to be covered from head to toe and always accompanied by a male member may be enacted or banning all music, television and movies all for the sake of protecting precious law and order..

Hallelujah.

It so happens that we meet and we depart. Looks like there are some people who briefly come into your life, to walk around with you for a corner or two. And then when you think you can make it on your own, they are invisible and you witness them walking back the same lanes you both once walked together.

Feels like, you meet every person for a reason. You are an imprint of all the hands you once held. So how do you know what you actually are? Your thoughts are the purest form of you. When you talk to yourself in the mind, at the bed..late at night. Scanning things the way you want, that defines you as a person. The most valid justification of people walking in and out of your life is that, they were the modus operandi which god used to teach you something, to let you experience that little extra.

So instead of regretting and feeling sad of things that happened and people who once were a part of the world, you are required to sit and analyse what you probably learnt. Smile to yourself, that you actually got the extra knowledge. Painful though it might have been, as knowledge always is. Remember the first day at school? yup, thats how we all learn, its tears at first and then the smiles :)

Ladies .. Insecure in India..Why are we doing this..???

For the past few weeks everyday in the news there is some or the other incident of the defilement of dignity of ladies all over the country.. Although sad to say that rape and molestation have become so common words in India that they hardly fail to ring a bell in the psyche anymore, but the recent levels of indecent behavior towards women has reached unprecedented heights.

There was this case of molestation of some female fans when the Twenty20 Indian Team returned to Mumbai victorious. The rape of foreign tourists in Rajasthan. The much publicized molestation of a newly married NRI lady on New year's eve. The public harassment of some females from the North East in Delhi (the females from the North East continue to be an easy target repeatedly in Delhi where some crazed lunatics have this wrong idea about their promiscuity, God knows from where ???). And there were scores and scores of many such incidents both reported or unreported. An entire epic can be dedicated to record these incidents but still not suffice.

Well why are we doing this? I ask this question to the entire male population of this country including me. Although our nation has always worshiped the female form and still continues to do so. We are a nation who traditionally are very family oriented and close to our mothers and sisters. But still these type of incidents keep on growing unabated. The lawmakers and keepers of this country as usual decide to keep mum on this topic or decide to impart some empty rhetoric which serves absolutely no purpose. We pride ourselves for being an epitome of decency but fail to protect half of our population. The incidents of harassment of couples by the police and the supposed denizens of our nation namely various political parties on the name of saving Indian culture and decency being a classic case in point. We harass couples but fail to apprehend rapists.

Are these incidents happening because some deranged people think they can score a point by inflicting harm on women. Or is it the case of high levels of testosterone released on some hapless victim? Or are we scared of the fairer sex making advances in every field and breaking traditional male bastions and want to instill fear in them?? Or is it the oft repeated and so cliche
problem between the have' s and the havenot' s??Or are there any other reasons which I haven't been able to figure out ??
Even women are to blame it for a certain extent, for all women's organizations though very vociferous about the reservation for women in parliament issue are not very active in protesting these incidents.

Well whatever may be the reasons, this problem of defiling a lady's respect should be stopped. Whether voluntarily or by passing strong legislation. And women too rather than being meek and submissive should strongly make a stand on these issues. The previous BJP government tried to pass a law to make rape a capital offense but was opposed by other parties. Such strong measures have to be employed to act as a deterrent.

As a nation we have to be able to safeguard the interests of half of our population. Although we may talk about 9% GDP and 20k Sensex but if we cannot protect our women, we cannot be considered as Developed.

Life ... Strange so Strange

Life . . . what is life ?????

A few days back a friend and myself were returning in his car from some place when I faced an incident which started to make me think in a big way about the unexplained phenomena of Life..

What happened was ....there was this guy on a bike with laptop hung on his back. One of the most common sights of this IT city. He was riding a little ahead of us and suddenly we heard this crashing sound and see that the guy is knocked down by a truck and is sprawled in front of the vehicle.

We all rushed out to help him and fortunately he had not been seriously injured other than a few bruises and a torn pair of trousers. Even his laptop survived the crash and remained intact. We all helped him to get up and took to a nearby pharmacy where first aid was administered. We got talking and came to know his name, his place of work and some other details, after all this he left.

This experience has made me realize how fickle our lives are. We all are busy with our careers, making money, buying assets raising families and all the many other mundane and not so mundane tasks that constitute our lives. But we don't even realize or maybe want to realize that this life of ours can be snuffed in just an instant. Like this software engineer working in a Multinational Company, dreaming about going to the US, buying a huge flat, marrying that perfect girl to have that perfect family, all that could have been just made history by the rash act of a semi literate truck driver carrying a load of sand to the site of a residential complex in which the Engrr may have been planning to buy his flat.

Life shows us many such examples, but we all choose to ignore them and move on with our selves, with our bagfuls of worries, dreams, greed, lust, jealousies and myriad other feelings. We are so much interested in our future, our tomorrow that we tend to overlook the today. We only plan ahead and miss out on the great things and moments that we can enjoy now. We are always in a rush to go ahead and not look behind or at the sides. And what if our tomorrow plans don't work out ?? what if we are gone before tomorrow then we didn't live the present and didn't survive the future anyways.

So from now on I have decided to live my present first and advocate the same to everyone else. In this dangerous and dynamic world when anything may happen anytime I am gonna live everyday of my life more.. Slowdown and look around..more.. love more.. laugh more.. cry more.. share more.. care more..And have a full life so that I have no regrets in the end..About not making the most of my life when I had the chance.
